Written by: Dr Kirsty Porter

A simple, nutritious breakfast designed by Dr. Kirsty Porter, paediatric dietitian with 16+ years’ experience supporting fussy and sensory eaters.

Breakfast can be a challenge for fussy or sensory-sensitive kids, especially when mornings are rushed. This Overnight Weetabix recipe is a hands-off, kid-friendly breakfast that’s soft, creamy, and adaptable, making it perfect for picky eaters or children with sensory sensitivities.

It’s also high in fibre, protein, and essential nutrients, keeping kids full and energised until mid-morning. Plus, it’s easy for kids to assemble themselves, giving them a sense of independence and encouraging positive food experiences.

Why This Breakfast Works for Fussy & Sensory Eaters

  • Soft, familiar textures: The soaked Weetabix and creamy yoghurt make it easy for children who dislike crunchy or dry textures.

  • Customisable: Use your child’s favourite fruit or nut butter to increase acceptance.

  • High fibre and protein: Chia seeds, milk, and yoghurt boost nutritional content and support digestion.

  • Hands-on involvement: Kids can crush Weetabix, mix yoghurt, or top fruit themselves — a low-pressure introduction to food prep.

Tips & Variations

  • Make it nut-free: Swap nut butter for sunflower seed butter if allergies are a concern.

  • Extra sweetness: Add a drizzle of honey or maple syrup for older children (avoid for under 1-year-olds).

  • Toppings: Try a sprinkle of cinnamon, cacao nibs, or toasted seeds for added texture.

Batch prep: Make 2–3 servings in separate jars for an easy breakfast during busy school mornings.
